Jharkhand’s Gumla area, one of the worst-affected by left-wing extremism, has experienced a surge in religious conversion by Christian missionaries over the years, particularly during the lockdown last year. The town’s strong Christian missionaries threaten the town’s impoverished and vulnerable residents, particularly those from the Scheduled Castes, with severe consequences if they do not comply with their demands. Many eventually succumb to the pressure and become Christians. News 18 reported on a group of families living in the Gadtoli block of Jharkhand’s Gumla district, of which a little less than half have been forced to abandon their Hindu Sarna faith and convert to Christianity due to the terror of conversion gangs working in the area at the behest of Christian missionaries. According to News 18, about 30 of the 55 families that live there have converted to Christianity, and the conversion racket has been going on in this hamlet for the past 15 years. According to the report, these two families are currently being tortured in order to comply with the demands of these Christian conversion gangs. For the past six months, a family belonging to a guy named Salik Gop is claimed to have been shunned by Christian neighbors for refusing to comply with religious conversion demands. Salik Gop’s family has received death threats on a regular basis, forcing them to hesitate a hundred times before leaving the house. Budheshwar Gop, Salik’s son and a paraprofessional teacher, has been unable to attend work for the past six months.

Salik Gop’s family alleged to the media source that, despite being a cowherd family, they are continually urged to eat beef. Their family has been forbidden from utilizing the water from the community well, let alone farming. Their children are not allowed to attend school, according to Salik Gop. The family’s whole source of income has been disrupted in order for them to comply with the conversion demands of the area’s influential Christian missionaries, but Salik Gop has stated that no matter what happens, he will not agree to their demands. It is shocking that these groups have been openly administering a parallel administration in Gumla, Jharkhand, for many years. The majority of the events occur in the presence of police officers, who do little to prevent them.
Dalit woman files complaint against Christian villagers alleging torture
It may be noted that in September, OpIndia reported that a lady health worker from Jamdih village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district filed a complaint with the police claiming Christian villagers of torturing her family members to convert to Christianity. The perpetrators allegedly sexually molested the complainant’s daughter in order to force the family to convert to Christianity, according to the complainant, who belonged to a Scheduled Caste. She also claimed that the accused urged the people to turn against her family.
