New car registrations in Mumbai went up by 13% in 2021 compared to pre-Covid times. Between January 1 and December 26, 2021, 56,689 automobiles were registered at the four RTOs, according to the data. In comparison, the city only has 38,592 vehicles registered in 2020 which is understandable. However, in 2019, 50,002 automobiles were registered in Mumbai. The biggest number of automobiles were registered at the Tardeo RTO (15,195), followed by the Borivali RTO (14,679). (14,679). At the RTOs in Andheri and Wadala, almost 13,000 vehicles were registered. In comparison to the previous year, overall vehicle registrations, which include bikes, buses, and heavy cargo vehicles, increased by 19%. This year, 1,95,109 vehicles were registered in Mumbai, up from 1,64,483 in 2020.
